The idea behindÉmomio

When words fail, a picture helps

Emotions run through all of us, every day. They tell us what matters to us, what does us good, what hurts us and what we need. None of them is good or bad: anger, sadness and tiredness have as much of a place as joy and love.

Recognising them is already a step towards understanding ourselves. Sharing them lets others understand us too.

It is not always easy to say how you feel, especially when you are little, tired or overwhelmed. Sometimes the words come too late, or not at all. Émomio starts from a simple idea: a simple face is understood at a glance, without explanation, and it can be shared.

Each cover stands for one emotion. You pick the one that looks like how you feel, show it or hug it. A grown-up, a classmate or a friend can then put a word to it: “you look angry”, “you need a cuddle”. The gesture comes first, the conversation follows.

Émomio is an object of comfort and conversation. It is neither an educational toy nor a therapeutic tool, and it does not replace listening or childcare professionals: it is simply a starting point for talking, at the right moment.

At home

A quiet corner in the bedroom, coming home from school, bedtime: those moments when an emotion spills over and a simple point of reference helps everyone settle.

In childcare settings

Morning drop-off, quiet time, a moment of tension in the group: the covers get pointed at, passed from hand to hand and open up the conversation.

At any age

Grown-ups too are allowed to say they are tired, happy or on edge. And on a sofa, the covers simply look good.

The five emotions

One cover, one emotion, one story

We chose five emotions that are easy to recognise rather than ten: fewer choices, more clarity, especially for the youngest. Each one has its place and deserves to be welcomed, the gentle ones as well as the harder ones. Each cover is sold separately and arrives folded in its zip pouch. Everyone can build their own set, at their own pace.

The Émomio joy cushion, a yellow face with laughing eyes, in the corner of a light sofa near a window. The joy cover folded in its translucent Émomio zip pouch.

Joy cover

To celebrate the little joys

The Joy cover is a bright, positive point of reference for recognising the good moments, savouring them and sharing them with those around you.

  • Celebrate a moment: a success, a discovery, a lovely day.
  • Keep the positive in sight: placed on the sofa or the bed, it is a reminder of what feels good.
  • Invite sharing: “What made you happy today?”, at home or in a group.
A little story: “The flat cake”

On Sunday, Nour wanted to bake a cake all by herself. It came out of the oven as flat as a pancake. At first she frowned… then she burst out laughing, and the whole family with her. That evening, she put the yellow cushion right in view on the sofa: “That was today.”

Anger cover

To show anger without breaking anything

When the storm builds up inside and words fail, the Anger cover offers a concrete way to say “I am angry”.

  • Express without shouting: you can grab the cushion, squeeze it hard or simply point at it.
  • Take a pause: a simple gesture to take a moment before calming down.
  • Open the conversation: a grown-up can welcome the emotion, without conflict or blame.
A little story: “The tower on the floor”

Tom had built the tallest tower of his life. One nudge of an elbow, and it all came crashing down. The words would not come, only clenched fists. So he went to fetch the orange cushion and put it down in front of him, very hard. His dad sat down beside him: “You're angry. I understand.” The anger did not go away all at once, but at last it had a face.

The Émomio sadness cushion, a grey face with a tear, on a window seat on a rainy day, next to a cup of tea. The sadness cover folded in its translucent Émomio zip pouch.

Sadness cover

A soft bubble for sad times

When sadness comes, the Sadness cover becomes a companion to hold close, to feel surrounded and understood.

  • Welcome without judging: you can show your sadness without having to explain it straight away.
  • Comfort yourself: hug it at a lonely moment or when saying goodbye.
  • Help the grown-up: it signals a need for attention, to help find the right words.
A little story: “The friend who moves away”

That evening, Inès did not want to talk. Her best friend was moving far away. She took the grey cushion with the little tear and held it close, without a word. Her mum understood straight away and sat down beside her. Sometimes, showing is enough: the words come later.

The Émomio tiredness cushion, a blue face with closed eyes and a moon, on a bed in the evening, near a bedside lamp. The tiredness cover folded in its translucent Émomio zip pouch.

Tiredness cover

To signal the need for rest

The youngest sometimes find it hard to recognise tiredness before it spills over. The Tiredness cover invites everyone to slow down, settle and relax.

  • Say “I'm tired”: a simple sign for parents or carers that quiet time or a nap is needed.
  • Part of bedtime: it finds its place in the evening routine, between play and sleep.
  • Listen to your body: learn to spot the signs of tiredness before frustration sets in.
A little story: “One more story”

It is late. Sami's eyes keep closing, but he asks for “one more story”. On his bed, the blue cushion with the moon is waiting. He turns it towards him: that is the signal. The lights go down, voices drop to a whisper, and the day gently settles.

The Émomio love cushion, a pink face with closed lashes and a little heart, on a bed with pink sheets in a bright bedroom. The love cover folded in its translucent Émomio zip pouch.

Love cover

To show tenderness

The Love cover is a gentle messenger for saying “I love you”, asking for a cuddle or simply enjoying being together.

  • Show affection: a simple gesture towards loved ones, family or friends.
  • Create a cosy corner: it adds a tender touch to a bedroom, a reading nook or a quiet corner.
  • Talk about feelings: it invites you to recognise the affection you feel for others… and for yourself.
A little story: “Coming home in the evening”

Mum gets home late from work. On the sofa, Lou has set up the pink cushion with the little heart, sitting up straight, facing the door. No need for words: it is an invitation. They snuggle up together. And on hard days, sometimes it is Mum who puts it there.

The little stories are made up to illustrate how the covers can be used. Lifestyle images created from the final designs: colours may vary slightly on the actual product.

In everyday life

Just one, or all five together

You can start with the emotion that matters most right now, the one that often comes up at home, then add to the family over time. A single cover already makes sense on its own; all five together form a little world.

The five Émomio cushion covers lined up on a beige sofa in a bright living room. A child seen from behind, sitting on the bed, places a hand on the yellow smiling Émomio cushion.

For grown-ups

A warm, graphic decorative touch

Émomio is not just for children's bedrooms. With their faces drawn in a few lines and their soft colours, the covers become real decorative pieces: graphic, cheerful and warm, they give character to a living room, a bedroom or a study, without ever overdoing it. And along the way, a little nod to the mood of the day.

A clean, simple style

A face drawn in a single line, a block of colour on a light, bright background: a minimalist, contemporary design. It works just as well in a Scandinavian, bohemian, classic or modern interior.

Colours that go together

Mustard yellow, terracotta, deep blue, dusty pink, soft grey: warm, calming tones chosen to go easily together, and with your plain cushions, throws or wooden furniture.

Mix and match as you like

A single cover for a touch of originality, two or three for a sofa with character, or all five in a row for a real gallery effect. You can also move them around with the seasons or your mood.

A couple chats on a green velvet sofa in the evening; at the other end, the Émomio Love and Joy covers.

A touch of good cheer in the study

Where to put them?

  • In the living room: on the sofa, mixed with plain cushions, for a lively arrangement.
  • In a reading nook: on an armchair or a bench, to brighten up a corner of the room.
  • In the bedroom: on the bed, for a grown-up bedroom that dares to use colour.
  • In the study: in a home-working space, for a touch of good cheer.
  • As a gift: an original present for a housewarming or a birthday.
